Reading is Magic!

Date: 2nd Oct 2020 @ 2:52pm

On Tuesday afternoon, year two took part in the ‘Reading is Magic’ festival with Nathan Bryon and Dapo Adeola.

Nathan Byron and Dapo Adeola co-created the books ‘Look up!’ and ‘Clean up!’ During our English lessons we have been exploring the book ‘Look up!’ And have been learning all about Mae Jemison.

During the virtual event we linked up with Nathan and Dapo. Nathan read his new book ‘Clean up!’ to the class, then discussed ways we can make ‘little changes to make a big difference’ to the environment.

Dapo then taught us how to create a flyer to invite people to join a clean-up. It was fascinating watching him sketch a grinning shark!

To complete the very exciting event, Nathan and Dapo allowed time for participants to ask questions. We learnt that Rocket was based on significant black females in history and also Dapo’s own niece.

The children created some beautiful flyers then did a clean-up of their own the following day around the school grounds.

We feel so privileged to have taken part in this event, we had a great day.
